Wagner Road Early Childhood Centre provides a homelike educational environment for children aged from 15months to 5 years. We are a unique service where we have an Affiliated Kindergarten program for children to transition to in the year before formal schooling. This model of care provides continuity of care for children up to the time children begin school. Environments such as ours provide children with spaces that are engaging and stimulating as well as a place where strong connections are made with peers and adults. When children feel that they belong and are safe and secure optimal learning occurs, which provides a solid base for future learning when children enter formal schooling.

Families

Our families are very important to us and we recognise the valuable role parents play in their children’s education. We actively encourage parental participation in our daily activities. We have many events during the year where you can connect with other families or come for a stay and play session. Wagner Road Early Childhood Centre and Kindergarten has a strong connection to the wider community including generational in our local area.

Director

Sylvia Murray, Bachelor of Education Early Childhood (Pre-service) is the director and nominated supervisor of Wagner Road since 2007. Sylvia guides a highly experienced and skilled team of educators that provides a quality educational program to the children who attend the service. Together with our parent committee, community involvement we value the strong reputation for providing children with high quality early childhood environments and programs.

Educators

Wagner Road Early Childhood Centre and Kindergarten affords quality educators with many years of early childhood based training and experience. Some of our educators have degrees these include; nursing, journalism, and nutrition to name a few. Our educators have worked at the service for several years and this is very beneficial for children to form long term caring relationships and to feel safe, secure and supported. Many of our staff has an education level above their required training level this also ensures that children that attend our centre have access to quality learning programs.

Exceeding Rating

The centre holds a rating of Exceeding in all seven quality standards, from the Australian Children Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA). The rating recognises our genuine commitment to the children in our care, and to the collaborative partnerships we have formed within our local community, including with speech and occupational therapists, and our close connection to local schools.

Program

Play based early learning is fluid and developmentally appropriate across all age groups. We provide spaces that are intentionally engaging and encourage children to question, test ideas and share their experience with peers. Educators interact with children in meaningful ways with children to develop programs that are child focused that change with children’s interest and age.

In house kitchen

Wagner Road Early Childhood Centre is very proud of its nutritionally balanced menu. The menu changes with seasons to capture the best quality food available. All of our meals are prepared and cooked onsite by our wonderful cook. As you walk into our service your senses are greeted with wonderful smells of our meals for the day. The kitchen has been afforded a 5 star rating by Brisbane City Council and is audited annually to ensure best practice in food handling and hygiene.

Play spaces

Our indoor and outdoor learning environments are recognised by ACECQA as spaces which enhance learning and growth; from our creek, mud patch, sandpit, bike riding tracks, climbing fort and swings, to our vegetable gardens where we grow olives, lemons, vegetables and herbs. They are designed so that small and large groups can explore and engage with peers.
